Passing of Jayme Ono

"The flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long."

On July 16th SFU cheerleading lost one of our own. Jayme Ono was involved in a seadoo accident and passed away. Though her time with SFU was short, her presence will be missed greatly.

Jayme graduated from Port Moody Secondary this year and came onto our team after summer tryouts. Our thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to her family and friends in their time of grief. Messages and condolences can be left at Port Moody Cheerleading's message board. Port Moody will be preparing a card/banner for the memorial with all of the messages.

For Jayme

i never saw her dance,
but i can feel her rhythm.
i never heard her sing,
but i can hear her song.
i never knew her dreams,
but i can sense their hope.

i have seen her smile,
and it still lights my way.
i have felt her presence,
and it still warms my heart.
i have seen her live,
and i am inspired.

For Jayme:

Heave you here
Languard time
beauty felt
a milk vision
flood tongue in delerious whisper
gone sweet friend
blue as true black
essential and elaborate
gorgeous being of
garden rain desire
worship your delicate dream
here may you rest

I express my love with a tender thought, and I hope the dreams of your night are as soft and beautiful as the kiss of your smile within my sight.

i'll miss you Jayme. You will forever be in my heart.

I did not know Jayme personally, but that just shows how great a person she is because you can feel her light and presence just by seeing her. I took classes with her mother, and our deepest sympathies go out to Jayme's family. She will be sorely missed by everyone that knew her, or even knew OF her.
With love and sympathies,
Jessica & Stephanie
May Jayme Ono Rest in Peace.

I dont personally know her. But she was always cheerful whenever she was around our school. I took lessons with her mother, Ms.Jane Ono. May her tragic death bring us a lesson: it's fun to be crazy, just as much fun as there is danger. Let's hope this does not happen again.

Rest in peace Jayme.

Jayme and I met when we were in daycare together, but she was a year older and I hadn't seen her for a really long time. But just this June, Burquitlam Elementary was closing and they had this celebration for it. That was the first time in years and the last time I saw Jayme. When I heard the terrible news I couldn't believe it. My prayers go out to you Jayme and to your family. May you rest in peace and may your memory live on!

Although she never said a word to me, I admired from a far. Every cheerleading competition I attended I saw her there, looking so happy and alive. She was a GREAT dancer and most likely an even greater person. Her mother taught me in school for 2 years and wish her full of courage, strength, and love through this tragidy. A girl so young and beautiful did not deserve this, please lets prevent it from happening again.

i knew jayme thru her coming out to watch her brother bryan's lacrosse games.....one could not help but stare at this beautiful girl who was so vibrant.....her smile just glowed...may jane, craig, bryan and other family members and friends who loved her so,(and will so terribly miss her) have some relief in this tragedy knowing that she was an inspiration to so many.(that is so apparant in the words of what so many have to say about jayme) and we all are so blessed in having jayme in our lives..even if it was for such a short time..

i admired jayme so very much and now that she has left us i wish i would have told her just how much i looked up to her. at first when i heard i thought it was rumor and then i read it in the newspaper my first thought was why her? she did not deserve this. but then i thot y anyone? does anyone deserve this? it was hard to wake up to reality and finally realize nothing could be done it was over i wished for her to watch over me and prayed for her to rest in peace. I went to the store and bought a rose aparently i heard at the end of the peir at rocky point someone had put a little dedication with a flower. so i took the rose went down to th peir and cried i couldnt belive it i barely new her but my heart was so filled with sadness y did anyone have to die at this age she was just starting her life. i gave the rose said my peace and left. i kept all the articles and reading them makes me want to cry. may u forever be remembered jayme god bless you.

I don't think Jayme knew me but I knew her. Her mother taught me and I hope the best for her. When i first saw Jayme she had a big smile on her face and she was really pretty and popular all the girls wanted to be like her. One day in my gym class she came in and taught the whole gym how to dance, she was great at teaching like her mother. I didn't believe the terrible news at first but i read the newspaper...
Although I didn't know her that well and she didn't know me i felt like somebody really close to me just disapeared.
I send my prayers to Jayme Ono and her family.
Jayme Ono may you rest in peace.

I knew Jayme a few years ago; however, she impacted me in such a way that I still remember her as a great individual with a sparkling personality! She was everything everyone says, a loyal friend and confedant! I never knew her as a dancer, but I did get the pleasure of calling her 'friend'. It was an honour to know Jayme.

Im younger than jayme..enough that she taught me dance at my school....i thought that was the best gym class i ever had..her way of teaching us was unbelevable...she was able to put up with kids that just sat on the ground were they were standing without even looking at them be so rude.
We will miss you jayme!

I was in one of Jayme's classes. She always had so much energy and life to here. I never once saw her sad or not smiling. She always stood up for people and for what was right. I can still hear her laugh and her voice. I would do any thing to just see her one more time and tell her how I really felt about her. I just wish that she could be her to see all the people who's lives she has touched. Jayme Ono you really were a remarkable person. In your short life you have touched people in ways you could never imagine. May you always be in our hearts forever and be forever missed. Its just not right that we have to say good bye to our friends at the age of 17. Your life was so short, but so powerful. I hope that everyone will treasure their time here on this earth because it is short. Jayme I hope that we will all get to see you once again. May you rest in peace forever and always. Love Alaya

We are sorry to hear about the tragic loss of such a young and wonderful girl;Jayme Ono. She touched so many lives with her warm heart and constant contagious smile. It's such a tradegy to lose an individual whose life was just starting. She brought happiness and laughter during her life; until days after you left us; all there is left is tears and sadness. We send our condolences to the Ono family and to all that knew JAYME.

GONE SO SOON

You took chances
Once too many times.
As a child you thought -
"Oh no, never me."
Life is a gift,
Given and taken at some
Unknown time.
Your time came too soon -
Your life was over in a flash.
The fun you shared,
The joy you brought,
All just a memory -
Behind us.

Jayme Ono was always a kind hearted person who always had an upbeat and positive attitude. She will always remembered for those reasons, although she was an admiral leader and coach for the Port Moody Secondary Cheer Team. I have never heard anything negative about
Jayme ever. I had never seen Jayme get angry at anyone, she will always be remembered for her leadership and positive attitude. May She Rest In Peace.

When I saw The Province newspaper today, I was horrified. My eyes were filled with tears. Jayme was my school mate, we didn't know each other, but whenever I saw her in school, she was always laughing and smiling. She was a beautiful dancer. My tears are with Jayme's family, and Jayme will always be remembered as a 'Beautiful Angel'. Don't worry family: A fairy like Jayme must be living now in the most beautiful part of God's Paradise.
